Shawnee VFW Hosts Vietnam Dog Tag Return

capture2Shawnee, OK –  While serving our country some 50 years ago, US Army Veteran Steven Jefferson lost his dog tag in Vietnam.

20140916_080624Jefferson’s dog tag was found and brought back from Vietnam, along with over 400 other dog tags, by a retired Chief of Police officer from Deptford, NJ. He had been in DaNang, Vietnam as logistics support for the medical mission called Operation Smile.

Sue Quinn-Morris, of Patriot Connections Dog Tag Project, indicated that the dog tags are hand delivered to the veterans and/or their family members whenever possible.

Sadly, Steven C. Jefferson died in April 2016 due to complications of Agent Orange, so his dog tag was returned to his widow, Karleen.

John “JC” Christ, an officer with the Nam Knights of America MC Delaware Valley NJ Chapter, rode cross country with his wife Dawn, to present Jefferson’s widow with his dog tag, along with officers and Riders of the VFW Post 1317.

A Ceremony was held on September 3, 2016 at 2pm at the VFW Post 1317,811 East MacArthur St in Shawnee, OK.
