Cambria County War Memorial
The 11th annual dedication by Conemaugh Valley Veterans will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Veterans Park adjacent to the Cambria County War Memorial in downtown Johnstown.
This year’s event honors the 25th anniversary of the Persian Gulf War.
Keynote speaker will be Army Reserve Maj. John Forte.
VFW Post 155 color guard will present the colors and give a 21-gun salute, and there will be a wreath laying.
All other services will be held on Monday:
Sandyvale Memorial Gardens
Sandyvale Memorial Day Ceremony and Celebration will begin at 10 a.m. at Sandyvale Memorial Gardens and Conservancy, 80 Hickory St. in Johnstown’s Hornerstown section.
The ceremony portion of the day will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and will feature as keynote speaker retired Marine Corps Col. John Skelley, military units, Scouts, Sons of Union Veterans and Ladies Auxiliary in parade, wreath presentations and musical selections.
There also will be a special tribute honoring the 25th anniversary of the Persian Gulf War.
A celebration from noon to 2 p.m. will feature a live concert with George Byush on the greenhouse patio, food vendors, military exhibits, children’s inflatable rides and activities, an antique and classic car and motorcycle cruise with U.B. the DJ and a plant and flower sale.
The event will be held rain or shine, and admission is free.
Kiwanis Memorial Park
A service by East Hills Kiwanis Club of Johnstown will be held at 1 p.m. at the Kiwanis Memorial Park to Veterans along Theatre Drive in Richland Township.
There will be a flag raising by Laurel Highlands Young Marines, the invocation by the Rev. Tim Wehn, patriotic music by Sam Coco and an honor guard by the Korean Veterans Association. Taps will be performed by The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps.
The keynote speaker will be (retired) Air Force Col. Doug Lengenfelter.
Ebensburg Borough
VFW Post 4963 and American Legion Post 363 will sponsor a parade at 10 a.m. in downtown Ebensburg with a ceremony to follow.
In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at Ebensburg Presbyterian Church, 200 N. Center St.
Windber Veterans Park
Windber Borough will hold a parade beginning at 10 a.m. with a service following at Windber Veterans Park.
The guest speaker will be Sgt. 1st Class Lisa M. Davis.
In case of inclement weather, the service will be conducted in the Windber Community Building, 605 Graham Ave.
Westmont Borough
Westmont Borough’s 15th annual Memorial Day Bicycle Contest and Parade will begin with judging and lineup at 7:30 a.m. at Westmont Hilltop Middle School on Luzerne Street.
The parade will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at Grandview Cemetery, where a service will be held at 9, and the Johnstown Symphony Chorus will perform.
Forest Lawn Memorial Park
A service will be held at 1 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Frankstown Road, Johnstown.
Military honors from Menoher Heights VFW Post 155 will include a flag raising and wreath laying ceremony.
Names of veterans buried at Forest Lawn from 2014 to the present will be read, along with special requests.
Nicktown
A parade will be held at 9 a.m. starting at the former Kirsch Garage and feature veterans, Scouting units, military and mobile units and the Northern Cambria High School marching band.
Following the parade, a service will be held at St. Nicholas Cemetery.
Guest speaker will be Robert Williams, a former middle school principal in the Northern Cambria School District. Jeremy McCombie, an Army veteran, will serve as master of ceremonies.
An honor roll installation service of deceased veterans also will be held.
Lambertsville Cemetery
The 148th Memorial Day service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Lambertsville Cemetery, one mile from the Flight 93 National Memorial.
The guest speaker will be Jason Shaulis, Navy, retired.
The service will feature the Shanksville-Stonycreek High School band, the eighth-grade American Legion Americanism Award recipients and graveside rites by the Shanksville American Legion.
Jackson Township
A ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial park behind the Jackson Township Senior Center, 200 Adams Ave., Mineral Point.
The speaker will be Cambria County President Commissioner Tom Chernisky.
East Taylor Township
A ceremony will be held at 12:30 p.m. at East Taylor Township Municipal Building, 2402 William Penn Ave.
Participants include Pastor Mike Christine of Locust Grove Church of the Brethren and Joe Chon singing “The Star Spangled Banner” and “God Bless America.”
Geistown VFW Post 155 Honor Rifle Team also will participate.
Shade-Central City
American Legion Post 449 and VFW Post 7457 will hold a service at 11 a.m. at the American Legion Post Home, Sunshine Avenue, Central City.
Guest speaker will be retired Army Lt. Col. Joseph Stahl.
Jerome
A service will be held at 9:30 a.m. across from the Jerome post office at 1901 Penn Ave.
This year’s speaker will be Lt. Col. Stephanie L. Haines, a native of Davidsville.
Refreshments will be served at the Jerome fire hall following the service.
In case of inclement weather, the service will be held in the fire hall.
Portage
Portage area Memorial Day services hosted by AMVETS Post 150 and VFW Post 895 will begin at 10 a.m. at Prospect Cemetery.
Services will be held by local veterans organizations at Wilmore Monument, Wilmore, and Bens Creek Social Club, Portage Township, following the service at the cemetery.
Patton area
Services will begin at 6:30 a.m. at the Revolutionary War Cemetery, followed by services at St. Augustine, Flinton, Beaver Valley and St. Lawrence.
A parade will be held at 8:45 in Patton.
Following the parade, services will continue at SS. Peter & Paul Orthodox and Byzantine, Fairview and Queen of Peace cemeteries.
A memorial tribute to veterans will be held at the Patton Veterans Memorial at Patton Park, VFW Post 779 and American Legion Post 614.
