PHILADELPHIA – August 19, 2012 (WPVI) — Many continue to mourn the loss of Officer Moses Walker Jr., while fellow Philadelphia police officers continue to search for his killer.
40-year-old Officer Moses Walker, Jr. was shot and killed Saturday morning, shortly after fin
ishing his overnight shift.
Rewards offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case are now up to $35,000. The City of Philadelphia put up $20,000 and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 has put up $15,000.
Officer Walker served as a deacon at his former church and was currently a member of Deliverance Evangelistic Church at 22nd and Lehigh Avenues.
His church family is also deeply saddened.
“It was senseless, senseless,” said Carrie Hartsfield, in reaction to the news.
Hartsfield says just the other week; Officer Walker bought her flowers to show his appreciation for her work in the church. It was an act of kindness she says reflects the his character.
“Very nice man…very nice. Always had a smile on his face and always spoke very kindly,” said Hartsfield.
Hartsfield like so many others is trying to make sense of the violence.
“If you’re going to rob him somebody, if that was the motive, why do you have to take their life,” she said.
It’s a question many people are asking especially police as they continue to investigate the crime.
No arrests have been made and no suspects have been named.
If you have any information about the suspect or the crime you can submit a tip by dialing 215-686-TIPS (8677) or text TIP to PPD TIP (773847).
