2010 – Cherry Hill Asst. Fire Chief, Thomas Kolbe, reflecting on 911. The Cherry Hill Fire Department obtained a four-foot piece of a World Trade Center I-beam, which it will incorporate into a planned 9/11 memorial outside the department’s Central Command Building.

September 11, 2011 marked the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. Several members of the Cherry Hill Fire Department and the Cherry Hill Police Department made the trip to NewYork City on that fateful day to lend a hand to their brother firefighters and police officers.
Because of their efforts, Cherry Hill Township was presented with a piece of the beam from the Trade Centers North Tower. In order to honor the firefigthers, police officers and civilian victims of that fateful day, Cherry Hill incorporated the piece of crossbeam into a permanent memorial that was dedicated on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 0800 hrs at the Central Command.

Battalion Chief William Stallfort, who was a first responder from Cherry Hill that went up to New York, gave an emotional account of what it was like.

The centerpiece of the Memorial is a 3-foot long piece of steel from 1 World Trade Center (north tower), suspended between two black granite towers. These towers stand on a granite pentagon-shaped based. The monument is dedicated “In Honor of the Lives Lost on September 11, 2001”.
The Memorial was constructed by Cherry Hill Firefighters and EMS members and supported by the generous donations of many businesses and individuals in the community.
