Legion Riders organizing ride to Wash, DC – Rolling Thunder
This is the first time that we are trying to organize all of the American Legion Riders to ride together as one group in support of Rolling Thunder.
Many American Legion Riders (ALR) have participated for years in the Annual Rolling Thunder demonstration in Washington DC.
ALR members fully support the Mission of Rolling Thunder, to publicize POW-MIA issues, to protect future Veterans, and to help American Veterans from all wars.
SITUATION: Memorial Day Weekend 2012 is the date for Rolling Thunder Weekend, and for many patriotic and veteran-themed events. Thousands of American Legion Riders will be in the DC area to support and participate in these events. Many American Legion Posts will have activities targeted for ALR members. American Legion riders will ride in support of Rolling Thunder on Sunday morning.
MISSION: ALR members gather from across the Nation in Washington DC to participate in events throughout the weekend and culminate in a ride together as an organization in the Rolling Thunder demonstration on Sunday, 27 May 2012.
EXECUTION:
– Motorcycle line-up at Post 177, Fairfax, VA at 0600 hrs. 27 May.
(Buffet breakfast will be available at the Post 177 Home.)

OPTION 1
– ALR group departs Post 177 at 0700 to join Ride of The Patriots (ROP) in Fairfax.
– ALR members participate in ROP patriotic festivities and Fairfax City events.
– ALR rides at end of the police-escorted ROP to Pentagon parking lots, by 10 am.
OPTION 2
– ALR group departs Post 177 at 0700 to ride directly to the Pentagon with police escort.

– Legion riders assemble & park at designated area in vicinity of Pentagon.
– American Legion provides support and program at Pentagon during wait.
– The ALR rides as a group into Washington DC in support of Rolling Thunder.

– Buffet breakfast available at Post 177 early on Sunday morning during line-up.
– Water & limited refreshments available in Pentagon parking lots.

– American Legion parking lot program still to be coordinated.

COMMAND & SIGNAL
– Observe parking lot control volunteers and measures on Sunday morning
– American Legion National command group will use Post 177 parking lot
– CB radio channel to be published for use during rides
– HAM radio support will assist ALR group moving from ROP to Pentagon rally point.
