Hiring Our Heroes – 24 Apr 2013 – Join us April 24, 2013 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Middletown Township Post #2179 for Hiring Our Heroes – Middletown/Port Monmouth. This will be a FREE hiring event for both employers and job-seekers, and employers across all sectors will be recruiting for currently-available positions. Forgotten Heroes – Ceremony – Remains Unclaimed – Amer Legion – 25 Apr 2013 – The American Legion, Post 524 of Ocean City will host a ceremony honoring the memory of four Cape May County Veterans who passed away and their remains have been left unclaimed until now. Post 524 will assemble at Veterans Memorial Park, 5th St & Wesley Ave, Ocean City on Thursday, April 25th at 11 AM and, along with a number of dignitaries and their fellow veterans, will pay tribute to their comrades.Following the ceremony, the cremains of these Veterans will be escorted from Ocean City to the Cape May County Veterans Memorial Cemetery for final interment. The public is invited to join with Post 524 and their fellow Veterans Service Organizations in offering their respects to these formerly forgotten heroes. WWII VETERANS OF THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE – 25 Apr 2013 – Open to ALL Veterans, as well as anyone interested in WWII history; particularly the Battle of the Bulge. Our members include 2 of the famous “Band of Brothers”, as well as a Malmedy Massacre survivor. A guest speaker is featured each month, including VA representatives, history professors, artists, etc. Meetings are held the LAST Wednesday of every month (not December) and begins at 12:30 P.M. lasting to approximately 2 – 3 PM .Lunch is available prior to the meeting (11:00am – 12:30pm) in the Coast Guard Galley for under $6. Unattended Veterans Service – 25 Apr 2013 – Washington Crossing National Cemetery. Thursday . April 25, 2013. 2:00 p.m. Military Honors will be performed in honor of those veterans interred in the month of April who had no one attending their service. The names will be read, the Pennsylvania Military Honors team will present the flag to a cemetery volunteer who will receive the flag on behalf of all of the veterans. The Guardians will perform the rifle salute and provide live Taps if available. If not, the electronic bugle will be used. The Unattended Veteran’s Service will take place after any scheduled 1:30pm service has been completed. It is our hope that all cemetery employees will be present along with any interested individuals wishing to attend. Feel free to invite anyone you wish. Clergy of all faiths are invited to attend. 8th Annual Blessing of the Bikes – 27 Apr 2013 – Helmetta, New Jersey. Sponsored by St. George’s Anglican Church, and S.G.Ventures,inc. The ride starts at 56 Main Street in Helmetta. Registration is from 10:00 am to 11:00 am and the motorcycles go out at 12:25 pm. The ride fee is $15.00 for the rider, $10.00 for a passenger and passengers under 12 ride for $5.00. The fee includes food at the end of the ride. The ride ends with food vendors and music. Vendor fee is $50.00. Proceeds go to the Church’s New Life Food Pantry. In honor of Petty Officer First Class (SEAL) David M. Tapper, USN and LCPL Jon T. Hicks Jr., USMC..David was a 13 year Navy SEAL veteran and was in Afghanistan conducting operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He enlisted in November 1989. He was a loving and dedicated father of four. Jon was deployed to Ashraf, Iraq in Anbar Providence with the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines as an Infantry Assaultman. Jon wanted to and loved being a Marine. He took pride in defending his country, our freedom, and working toward the defeat of terrorism. Schedule of Events: 7:30 – 8:30AM Registration. Blessing of the Bikes – Amer Legion – 27 Apr 2013 – Merchantville American Legion is sponsoring a Blessing of the Bikes to be held 10am at Grace Episcopal Church, 7 East Maple Avenue, Merchantville, NJ 08109. Donations will be gladly accepted and will go to support “Home of the Brave” a shelter to help homeless veterans in Camden.
