NJ Run for the Fallen
One Mile – One Flag – One Hero

In an apolitical reflection of remembrance a team of 54 active duty military runners from Joint Base McGuire/Dix/Lakehurst will embark on a 164+ mile run to honor every New Jersey service member killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.

The 4th Annual NJ Run for the Fallen will start on Friday September 28, 2012, at Cape May Lighthouse and will finish on Sunday September 30, 2012, at The Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial in Holmdel, NJ.

Each mile of the Run is dedicated to a NJ Hero and the Run Team will stop at every Hero Marker (every mile) and present an American Flag and a personal biographical card in honor of every fallen service member with the intent to create a 164+ mile long memorial trail through New Jersey. Each group of 3 runners carrying 3 flags will run legs of seven miles at a military pace of 8 minutes per mile.

As in 2011 we will be divided into 2 separate groups as follows:

Advance Group – Blue Star Mothers, The Travelling Wall of Remembrance, Yellow Ribbon Club, Honor & Remember, Warriors Watch Riders (WWR) and NJ State Police. The Advance Group should arrive at each Hero Marker about 20 to 30 minutes prior to the Main Group.
Main Group – Run Team, support vehicles, Warriors Watch Riders (WWR), NJ State Police and local PD escorts.

Each Hero Marker number will have a link on each Hero Bio page showing the location map for that Marker, expected arrival time of the Main Group and other pertinent details.
Hero Markers
Picture
The end of each mile of the run is designated as a Hero Marker and each is assigned to one of our New Jersey Heroes. A couple of days prior to the actual run each of these Hero Marker locations will be marked by painting that particular number at the designated spot on the road shoulder and we will also place a laminated Gold Star Banner card with the HM number and name as well. Hopefully this will make it easier to find them.
A map for each Hero Marker location will be available as soon as the route is finalized.
