It is with deep regret we inform you of the passing of Edward Dubeck on July 2, 2016. He was a WWII Silver Star Recipient. Born on October 16, 1920, he enlisted in the USMC on August 24, 1942. “A” Company, 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Division, 24th Regiment, Fleet Marine Force Pacific, Campaigns Served – Saipan, Tinian, Roi Namur, Iwo Jima.

SILVER STAR CITATION:

In the name of the President of the United Staes, the Commanding General, Fleet Marine Force, Pacific, takes pleasure in awarding the SILVER STAR MEDAL to CORPORAL EDWARD W DUBECK, USMCR for the service as set forth in the following CITATION:

For conspicious gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy forces on TINIAN, MARIANAS ISLANDS. Shortly after the landing on Tinian, on 24 July, 1944, the machine gun of which Cpl Dubeck was in command, was destroyed by the enemy. At the same time a squad leader of the rifle squad was wounded. Cpl Dubeck, seeing that his machine gun was inoperative, immediately took command of the rifle squad dna continued to lead it towards an enemy pillbox. His leadership was responsible for knocking out this pocket of enemy resistance. Shortly thereafter, while continuing to lead this squad, Cpl Dubeck was wounded by enemy fire. His initiative, presence of mind, and fighting spirit were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service..

Beloved husband of Viola D. (nee Mulrine). Loving father of Edward “Nicky” (Jacky), Karen Hickey (Bob) and Patty Gugliotta (Sal). Also sadly missed by 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Leona Zembrzuwski, Florence Costello and Mildred Terzyk.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing Wednesday eve 6 to 8 P.M. at the SLABINSKI FUNERAL HOME, 2614 Orthodox St., Phila. Pa. 19137 and again on Thursday beginning at 8 A.M. Funeral Mass 10 A.M. at St. John Cantius Church. Int. Holy Redeemer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Bridesburg Memorial Day Parade would be appreciated by his family.
