Trenton Nov. 9, 2012 – The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, ESGR and The American Legion is announcing an accelerated scheduled Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) job fair, which is part of a nationwide effort to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment.   This expedited job fair will focus specifically on quick-fill opportunities available in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. We are recruiting employers specializing in all aspects of building, construction, clean-up and hauling, inspection and demolition.

The hiring event is being hosted by The American Legion, George P. Vanderveer, Post 129 in Toms River, NJ.  It will be conducted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, ESGR, and The American Legion, and supported by Helmets To Hardhats the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMAVA) the Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (DOL VETS), the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (LWD), the Veterans Administration and other local partners.  Veterans and their spouses are encouraged to take advantage of this event, on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Legion Post 129, 2025 Church Rd., Toms River NJ.  Other veteran related agencies and organizations will be available to provide veterans with additional information regarding their state and federal benefits.

“In March of 2011, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s National Chamber Foundation launched Hiring Our Heroes, a nationwide initiative to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment. Working with our network of 1600 state and local chambers and other strategic partners from the public, private, and non-profit sectors, our goal is to create a movement across America in hundreds of local communities where veterans and military families return every day. Hiring Our Heroes has hosted more than 355 hiring fairs in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia; more than 14,100 have gotten jobs (through September 30, 2012). We have significantly expanded our efforts in 2012 with a goal of hosting hiring fairs in 400 communities, the establishment of a stand-alone program for military spouses, and a sustained campaign to enlist the commitments from the small business community to hire veterans and military spouses by the end of 2014.”

Veteran job seekers and employers should go to HoH.GreatJob.net to register.  Employers must have current job openings, and must register.   If you need assistance registering, please contact us at hiringourheroes@uschamber.com.
