OBITUARY

John Rawley, Col. (retired) of Cherry Hill, NJ, formerly of Medford Lakes, NJ passed away on April 3, 2018 after a brief illness.  After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School, he continued his civilian and military education graduating from Wilmington University and Central Michigan University.

John is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Jean Rawley (nee Burgo).  Also survived by his dear and loving sister-in-law Michele and brother-in-law William Taylor, Jr. and niece Krista.  Predeceased by his nephew Billy Taylor, sister Joan, brother-in-law William Johnston and niece Susan O’Neill.

John had an extensive and outstanding military career.  His military education included Airborne, Officer Candidate School, Special Forces, Ranger and Pathfinder schools.  In addition to numerous military awards, he earned the Soldier’s Medal for Heroism in 1976 after rescuing two people from a burning automobile.  In 1979, he joined the Delaware Army National Guard Academy and served as the training officer retiring in 1987.  He was an admirer of World War II Veterans and researched records to make sure individuals had received the medals and recognition they so deserved.  He was a lifetime member of the 82nd, 101st and Special Forces Associations.  In addition to his military career, he was employed until 2010 as the training officer for the Camden County Sheriff Department.  Anyone who met John always remembers the charismatic personality of “The Colonel.”

Relatives and friends of the family will meet for his viewing on Sunday evening from 7:00pm to 9:00pm and Monday morning from 9:30am to 11:00am all in the BOCCO FUNERAL HOME, 1300 North Kings Hwy., Cherry Hill, NJ.
