John had an extensive and outstanding military career.  His military education included Airborne, Officer Candidate School, Special Forces, Ranger and Pathfinder schools.  In addition to numerous military awards, he earned the Soldier’s Medal for Heroism in 1976 after rescuing two people from a burning automobile.  In 1979, he joined the Delaware Army National Guard Academy and served as the training officer retiring in 1987.  He was an admirer of World War II Veterans and researched records to make sure individuals had received the medals and recognition they so deserved.  He was a lifetime member of the 82nd, 101st and Special Forces Associations.  In addition to his military career, he was employed until 2010 as the training officer for the Camden County Sheriff Department.  Anyone who met John always remembers the charismatic personality of “The Colonel.”
