Ralph Edward Slater, Jr., age 68, of Cherry Hill and formerly of Woodlynne passed away on October 13, 2015 surrounded by his family after a brave two year battle with lung cancer. Son of the late Ralph and Ethel Slater of Audubon Park. Beloved husband of the late Theresa Slater. Devoted and loving father of Carolyn and Diana. Brother of the late Donald Miller and Barbara Weihmiller. Also survived by many cherished cousins and nephews.

Ralph graduated Audubon High School in 1966. He was a Vietnam War veteran, serving in the Air Force from 1966 to 1972 as a Security Sergeant. He received the Bronze Star Medal for leadership and meritorious service. He met his wife Theresa as a patient at West Jersey Hospital, where she was his nurse. They married in 1972 and were married for over 41 years until her death. He worked at the Camden County Sheriff’s Department for 26 years and retired as a Sergeant. He then worked as a Civilian Identification Officer for the Camden City Police Department and most recently for the Camden City Fire Marshall’s Office. Throughout his career he made many dear friends whom he treasured. He was devoted to his family and he considered his neighbors close friends. He worked hard throughout his life. He took pride in improving his home and enjoyed woodworking and crossword puzzles. He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and “Slater stories”. He was a man of pride and honor and always strived to be a good man and Christian.
