Join Independence Seaport Museum and the Chapel of Four Chaplains in commemorating Memorial Day with a special celebration aboard Spanish-American War Cruiser Olympia on Monday, May 30, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. This year’s theme is Remembering the Unknown Soldier. 

Program

  • Color Guard- United States Coast Guard
  • National Anthem
  • Introduction by Michael Flynn, Vice President of Interpretation and Visitor Experience
  • Welcome by John Brady President and CEO
  • Brief History of the Chapel of Four Chaplains and Introduction of Guest Speaker by Captain Louis A. Cavaliere, US Navy (Ret.)
  • Memorial Day remarks by Marco Polo Smigliani, US Marine Corps, 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, serving in the Republic of Vietnam, Member of the Order of the Purple Heart and currently serves as a veteran’s Advocate in South Jersey.
  • Remembrance of the Unknown Soldier and Wreath Laying Ceremony by Colonel John C. Church, Jr. US Marine Corps, Commanding Officer, 3D Civil Affairs  Group, Great Lakes Naval Station, Illinois who will be taking over as President of Valley Forge Military Academy in late June, 2016.
  • Taps triple 6-pounder guns salute 

Light refreshments will be provided aboard Cruiser Olympia immediately following the ceremony. All are invited to explore the Museum’s galleries and historic ships at no additional charge. Please RSVP to seaport@phillyseaport.org or call 215-413-8616. Space is limited.

On Memorial Day, May 30, Independence Seaport Museum will offer free admission for all veterans and active military, along with discounted admission for their relatives.
