ROXBURY TWP. – All that can go wrong is the weather as Roxbury prepares to honor those who have served the country, and who gave the ultimate sacrifice of their lives.

The township’s 2012 Memorial Day parade is scheduled to take place beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 28.

“We have the antique cars ready to roll. We are getting a lot of donations, and now we all have to keep our fingers crossed on the weather,” Councilman Richard Zoschak said on Tuesday, April 24.

Zoschak said the parade takes about an hour, and the ceremony which follows it at Horseshoe Lake typically takes about another hour.

The parade kicks off at 10 a.m. Marchers start at the corner of Meeker Street and Hillside Avenue in Succasunna, and continues south on Main Street.

Marchers will turn right onto Eyland Avenue, cross over Route 10, and go past the Eisenhower Middle School. The parade will enter the Horseshoe Lake complex, located at 72 Eyland Ave., Succasunna, and will end at the war memorial.

The solemn, dignified ceremony begins at 11 a.m., and is presented by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2833. This year’s grand marshals will be Roxbury’s Municipal Court Judge Carl Wronko and his wife, Christine.

Residents are invited to place lawn chairs and stand along the parade route.

Those who would like to march in the parade with local veterans can visit the township’s web site at: www.roxburynj.us for the 2012 Memorial Day sign-up sheet.

Permits Needed

And speaking of nice weather, and in another matter, Township Manager Christopher Raths has cautioned residents that with warm weather comes the desire to make home improvements and changes.

“If you want to redo your driveway or install a pool or do exterior work to your home, you do need a permit from the township,” Raths said.

“We are hearing a lot of reports of contractors telling residents that they don’t need permits, and this is causing a lot of problems,” Raths said.

“People are working in easements and damaging township property. We are a very customer-friendly township. We will work with the homeowners, but they do need to come in and see us and get a permit,” he said.
