Mug and hug for WWII veteran Irv Mesher. He served in the Navy on the USS Silverstein, a destroyer escort, as a sonarman first class. He was one of the first crew on this ship. He survived the battles of Iwo Jima and Oninawa. After the war he returned to his first love as a trumpet player accompanying many stars such as Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Lena Horn, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis and Sammy Davis JR. In 1955 he joined the New York City fire dept and rose to the rank of Battalion Chief before retiring in the South Bronx. We will surprise him as he is relaxing at my house in Bensalem, on Sunday August 18th around 1830.
