Liberty State Park will provide the venue for the 2015 statewide Recovery Walk and Rally on Sunday, September 27, 2015. This event will begin with a ceremonial walk starting at 10:00 AM, followed by an all day rally with music, food, educational exhibits, performances and motivational speakers.

Heroin addiction is a growing epidemic, permeating every county. Addiction to alcohol and other substances are threatening our families, schools, and communities. Unfortunately, the stigma surrounding this deadly disease often prevents individuals from seeking the treatment they so desperately need. “We anticipate this event will go far to offer hope to the suffering and demonstrate the reality of recovery,” said Lisa Gladwell, Chair of New Jersey Recovery Advocates, a statewide grassroots organization of concerned community leaders whose purpose is to raise awareness of the billions of people worldwide that have been freed from addiction and are living in long-term recovery. Event sponsors include American Addiction Centers, Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Addiction, Orexo, Akermes, the Wellness Center, PSE&G, Inserra Shoprites and Summit Oaks Hospital.

A Banner Contest during the Walk will highlight this year’s theme, “You are not alone.” Music will include JoBonanno and the Godsons of Soul, Patrizsha and the Soulterior Motives and Christine Martucci.

Liberty State Park is accessible through all means of transportation: car, bus, rail and ferry. Parking ($7.00) is limited: carpooling and public transportation are encouraged. The festival is free and open to the public. With the New York City skyline as a backdrop and, most fitting, the Statue of Liberty standing tall and strong, this event will celebrate freedom from addiction.
