The Independence Seaport Museum and the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund will host a Veterans Day memorial celebration aboard Spanish-American War Cruiser Olympia on Wednesday, November 11, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event will honor all who served in the United States Armed Forces with a ceremony performed by the Living History Crew and fellow Vietnam veterans, the firing of Cruiser Olympia’s signal guns and tours of historic ships Cruiser Olympia and Submarine Becuna. Guests who attend the ceremony will also receive complimentary access to the Museum for the remainder of the day.
Ceremony Schedule of Events
2 p.m. – Light refreshments aboard Cruiser Olympia
2:20 p.m. – Veterans Day Program
- Welcome by John Brady, President and CEO of Independence Seaport Museum
- Olympia’s Veterans Day story by Max Kaiserman, Historian and Interpreter
- Veterans Day remarks by Terry Williamson, Vietnam Veteran and President of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund
- Memorial ceremony by the Living History Crew and fellow Vietnam veterans
- Gun salute
2:40 p.m. – Musical performance
3 p.m. – Tours of historic ships Cruiser Olympia and Submarine Becuna begin
Anyone who observed the Veterans Day memorial ceremony at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund or served in the United States Armed Forces is welcome to join Independence Seaport Museum’s Salute to Veterans ceremony aboard Cruiser Olympia. RSVP is strongly recommended as space is limited.
