VFW Post Celebrates Grand Opening
Delran, NJ, 14 May 2014 – The Members of VFW Post 3020 will celebrate the grand opening of their new post with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 1:00 PM on Sunday, June 8th 2014. The event will feature a number of invited guests, to include: state and local dignitaries, statewide VFW Officers, past commanders of Post 3020, USS New Jersey Sea Cadets, Riverside High School JROTC Students and much more. The VFW members will also honor a number of local citizens who went above and beyond in helping to reopen the post’s doors. Along with the grand opening, the VFW will be kicking off its 80th Anniversary fundraising campaign.
The post was destroyed by fire on Easter Sunday in 2012. The hard work and dedication of the post’s leadership has led to the speedy construction of the new post building. The building and bar allow the post members to raise money for all of the many worthy local causes to which the post has contributed over the years.
While the post has been limited in giving financially as of late, its members continues to have a profound impact on the community in other ways. It is impossible to explain the effect on the family of a deceased veteran when the post color guard, dressed in their finest regalia, perform the final military salute with the crack of the rifles, the wail of the bugle’s Taps and the solemn presentation of a perfectly folded “Old Glory.” These brothers-in-arms faithfully lay wreaths at multiple area cemeteries every Memorial Day and Armed Forces Day. And what would the parades in Riverside, Riverton and Wildwood be without VFW Post 3020’s members marching in unison, led, until recently, by a gallant, 80-year-old Marine veteran of the Korean War?
Perhaps you were one of the many veterans’ children who grew up running around the post on Fairview at a summer clam-bake or pig-roast. As a new summer approaches, the VFW is excited to carry on that tradition, now with a new generation of sticky fingered and skinned kneed miniature patriots—children of returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans.
